Water Flowing From His Fingers ﷺ — Fifteen Hundred at Hudaybiyyah

Thirst.

Fifteen hundred throats were dry under the sun of Al-Hudaibiya.

Fifteen hundred men, far from home, with no well to draw from and no stream to fill their hands — and between all of them and the water they needed stood one small pot.

Jabir ibn Abdullah رضي الله عنه was there that day, and he tells us the story: "The people became very thirsty on the day of Al-Hudaibiya (Treaty)." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

The only water left among them was the small amount in front of the Prophet ﷺ for his ablution: "A small pot containing some water was in front of the Prophet (ﷺ) and when he had finished the ablution, the people rushed towards him." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

Imagine that rush.

Not a riot. Not a scramble. Just thirsty men moving together towards one man — because they knew where a problem should be carried.

He ﷺ saw them coming and asked: "What is wrong with you?" Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

And they told him the plain truth, without complaint and without exaggeration: "We have no water either for performing ablution or for drinking except what is present in front of you." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

No water to drink. No water for ablution. And one small pot.

So what did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do?

He did not send them away to search the hills, and he did not ask them to wait until tomorrow. He served the need himself: "So he placed his hand in that pot and the water started flowing among his fingers like springs." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

> «فَجَعَلَ الْمَاءُ يَثُورُ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ كَأَمْثَالِ الْعُيُونِ»

Water, flowing from between human fingers like springs — enough for a camp, from a pot made for one.

And they all came forward. Jabir رضي الله عنه says: "We all drank and performed ablution (from it)." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

Not a careful sip each. They drank their fill and washed for prayer — fifteen hundred men, from a pot one man could carry.

Years later, Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd — who narrates this hadith from Jabir — asked him about that day: "How many were you?" Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

He wanted a number — and Jabir gave him one no one who was there could ever forget: "Even if we had been one-hundred-thousand, it would have been sufficient for us, but we were fifteen-hundred." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

One hundred thousand — and it still would have been enough.

But they were fifteen hundred. And it was enough.

🌿 Stop and Think About This Scene

Look at how the crisis was carried.

The people did not sit grumbling about the heat, and they did not blame one another. They rushed towards the Prophet ﷺ and laid the problem before him exactly as it was.

And look at what he ﷺ did first. He asked a question: "What is wrong with you?" Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

He listened before he acted.

Then notice what the water was needed for: not only drinking — ablution too. Body and worship were both answered together.

And notice the sizes: a small pot, one hand, fifteen hundred men.

The blessing was never in the size of the pot.

❤️ The Greatest Lesson for Our Lives Today

We measure everything by quantity.

A small salary feels like a small life. A little time for worship feels like it cannot possibly be enough.

But this story teaches us how Allah measures.

Provision is not by the size of the container. Provision is by the blessing Allah places inside it.

That little pot was nothing in itself — a few mouthfuls of water. But when the hand of the Prophet ﷺ entered it, it became springs.

How much of what we already hold would become enough, if we stopped staring at how small it is and started trusting the One who multiplies?

Blessing is the real measure. And blessing comes from Allah alone.

📚 Important Lessons From This Hadith

1. Carry your crisis to Allah, and state it plainly

The Companions did not hide their need and they did not dress it up. They rushed to the Prophet ﷺ and said exactly what was missing: "We have no water either for performing ablution or for drinking except what is present in front of you." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

Honest, clear, and without panic — the way a need should be presented, to Allah in dua and to people when we ask.

---

2. A little, blessed, becomes abundance

The pot never grew. The water never stopped.

What changed was the blessing within it. "Even if we had been one-hundred-thousand, it would have been sufficient for us, but we were fifteen-hundred." Sahih al-Bukhari 3576

Never despise a small provision. Its sufficiency is decided by Allah, not by its size.

---

3. He ﷺ served the need himself

The Prophet ﷺ could have ordered someone else to handle it. Instead, "he placed his hand in that pot" Sahih al-Bukhari 3576 — his own hand, in the people's own pot.

True leadership is not distance. It is a hand placed where the need is.

---

4. Fifteen hundred witnesses

This miracle did not happen in a corner, to be whispered about afterwards.

A counted crowd — fifteen hundred men — drank from that water and washed with it, in the open. Years later Jabir رضي الله عنه still remembered the exact number: "fifteen-hundred" Sahih al-Bukhari 3576.

The miracles of the Prophet ﷺ were public events, witnessed by multitudes and remembered with precision.

---

5. Gratitude for water

We turn a tap and never think. They crossed a camp, thirsty, for one small pot.

Water is the most ordinary gift in our lives. See it again: every glass a blessing, every ablution a mercy, every drink a reason to thank Allah.

🏠 How Can We Apply This Hadith in Our Daily Lives?

💧 At Home

Do not waste water — the people of Hudaybiyyah knew the weight of a single pot.

🤲 When Something Runs Out

When money is short or time is tight, turn to Allah first, and state your need to Him plainly — the way the Companions stated theirs.

🗣️ Asking for Help

When you must ask people, ask the way they asked: honestly, clearly, without exaggeration and without drama.

🍞 Sharing the Little You Have

Do not hold back from sharing because what you have looks small. A small pot fed fifteen hundred — your small gift, blessed by Allah, can reach further than you think.

👨‍👩‍👧 Teaching Our Children

Tell them the number: fifteen hundred men, one small pot. Remembering precisely what Allah did for us keeps gratitude alive.

---

🌹 The Most Beautiful Message of This Story

A camp of fifteen hundred thirsty men.

One small pot of water.

One blessed hand placed inside it.

And springs began to flow between his fingers ﷺ — until every throat was quenched and every man had washed for prayer.

Nothing about the pot changed.

Everything about the blessing did.

Whatever small thing sits in front of you today, do not despair over its size. Ask the Lord of the springs to bless it.

For when Allah blesses a little, a little is more than enough.
