Avoiding Drops of Urine
Avoiding Drops of Urine
It is necessary to take precautions against urine drops. If urine drops come out after urination and get onto the clothing, the clothing becomes impure. If the amount of urine is equal to one dirham, performing prayer in such clothing is Makruh Tahrimi (prohibitively disliked). If it is more than one dirham, the prayer will not be valid.
“An amount equal to one dirham or less of major impurity (najāsah ghalīẓah), such as blood, urine, wine, chicken droppings, and the urine of a donkey, does not prevent the validity of prayer. If it exceeds one dirham, prayer is not valid.
Our evidence is that a small amount of impurity is difficult to avoid, so it is treated as excused. We have determined its limit as one dirham, based on the amount relevant to the place of istinjā’.
It is also reported that the dirham is measured by area, which according to the sounder view is approximately the width of the palm. It is also reported that it is measured by weight, namely the large dirham, which is equivalent to one mithqāl in weight.”
