Brief explanation:
These places are mentioned in the hadith because relieving oneself there causes harm, inconvenience, or disturbance to people who use or pass through those places. The Prophet ﷺ therefore warned against such actions as things that cause people to curse the person who does them.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Be on your guard against two things which provoke cursing. They (the companions present there) said: Messenger of Allah, what are those things which provoke cursing? He said: Easing on the thoroughfares or under the shades (where they take shelter and rest).
Sahih Muslim 269
Narrated Mu'adh ibn Jabal:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Be on your guard against three things which provoke cursing: easing in the watering places and on the thoroughfares, and in the shade (of the tree).
Sunan Abi Dawud 26
Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade to urinate in stagnant water.
Sahih Muslim 281
