Manhiyyat al-Wudu (Prohibitions of Wudu)
Manhiyyat al-Wudu (Prohibitions of Wudu)
“Among the things prohibited/disliked in wuḍūʾ are:
performing wuḍūʾ with the leftover water of a woman; performing wuḍūʾ in an impure place, because the water used for wuḍūʾ has a degree of sanctity; performing wuḍūʾ in a mosque, except in a vessel or in a place specifically prepared for wuḍūʾ; spitting phlegm into the place; and blowing one’s nose into the water.”
Important: Here مَنْهِيَّاتِهِ literally means “things that have been prohibited from,” but in the fiqh context Ibn ʿĀbidīn explains that this can include acts that are makrūh tanzīhī; therefore, translating it simply as “prohibited acts” can sometimes give the wrong legal impression.
“Among the things from which one should refrain during wuḍūʾ are: performing wuḍūʾ with the leftover water of a woman; performing wuḍūʾ in an impure place, because the water of wuḍūʾ possesses a degree of sanctity; performing wuḍūʾ in a mosque, except in a vessel or in a place specifically prepared for it; spitting phlegm; and blowing one’s nose into the water.”
