Snow Water

Water melted from snow (Mā dhāba min al-thalj)

Ruling (Ḥukm): Snow, once it has melted (dhāba) into liquid water, is ṭāhir and muṭahhir like any other water, and is valid for wuḍūʾ and ghusl. The wording 'mā dhāba min al-thalj' (what has melted from snow) is deliberate: solid snow or ice cannot itself be used to complete wuḍūʾ by rubbing on the limbs unless it is melted or made to flow, because mere rubbing with a solid does not count as washing (ghasl) with water.

The waters with which purification (ṭahārah) is valid are seven: (1) sky/rain water, (2) sea water, (3) river water, (4) well water, (5–6) melted snow water and hail water, (7) spring water.
