Allah Almighty accepted the supplication of the Prophet ﷺ.
After this battle, when Ibn Qami’ah reached his flock of goats, he took them and climbed the mountain. As he was driving the goats and rams together, suddenly a ram attacked him. It struck him so forcefully with its horns that he rolled down the mountain, and his body was torn apart.
When the blessed face of the Noble Prophet ﷺ was injured and began to bleed, he would wipe the blood from his face and say:
«“How can a people prosper who have stained the face of their Prophet with blood merely because he calls them toward their Lord?”»
The links of the Prophet’s ﷺ helmet had become embedded in his blessed face. Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah رضي الله عنه pulled these links out with his teeth. During this effort, one of his front teeth broke.
Nevertheless, the link came out.
Then he grasped the second link with his teeth and pulled it out, and another tooth broke.
Thus, the second link also came out.
Normally, after both of Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah’s رضي الله عنه front teeth had broken, his face should have become disfigured. But what happened was that his face became even more beautiful than before.
When the news spread that the Prophet ﷺ had been martyred, Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah رضي الله عنه was the first person to see him alive and safe and call out:
«“O Muslims! Rejoice! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is right here!”»
When the Muslims saw the Prophet ﷺ alive and safe, they gathered around him like moths around a flame.
The Prophet ﷺ then proceeded with all of them toward a valley. At that time, Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat ‘Umar, Hazrat ‘Ali, Hazrat Zubayr, and Hazrat Harith ibn al-Simmah رضي الله عنهم were with him.
That day, Hazrat Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwam رضي الله عنه also demonstrated tremendous steadfastness and pledged himself to protect the Prophet ﷺ unto death. In other words, he made a commitment that he would give his life protecting the Prophet ﷺ but would never abandon him.
The Prophet ﷺ was moving toward the valley with these Companions when ‘Uthman ibn ‘Abdullah approached him riding a black-and-white horse. He was completely covered in armor.
Hearing the sound of the horse, the Prophet ﷺ stopped.
At that very moment, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Abdullah’s horse stumbled and fell into a pit.
Hazrat Harith ibn al-Simmah رضي الله عنه immediately rushed toward him and struck him with his sword.
He blocked the blow.
For a short while, the two exchanged sword blows. Then suddenly Hazrat Harith struck him on the leg with his sword.
He was wounded and sat down.
Hazrat Harith رضي الله عنه delivered a powerful blow and finished him.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said:
«“Praise be to Allah, Who has destroyed him.”»
At that very moment, ‘Abdullah ibn Jabir al-‘Amiri attacked Hazrat Harith رضي الله عنه.
His sword struck Hazrat Harith رضي الله عنه on the shoulder, wounding him.
At those moments, Hazrat Abu Dujanah رضي الله عنه attacked ‘Abdullah ibn Jabir and killed him with his sword.
The Muslims carried Hazrat Harith رضي الله عنه away so that his wounds could be treated.
Then the Noble Prophet ﷺ intended to climb a large rock that rose within the valley. However, because of the loss of blood from his wounds and the weight of his armor, he was unable to climb it.
Seeing this, Hazrat Talhah رضي الله عنه sat down in front of the Prophet ﷺ and carried him on his shoulders to the top of the rock.
At that time, the Prophet ﷺ said:
«“Because of this righteous deed of Talhah, Paradise has become obligatory for him.”»
One of Hazrat Talhah’s legs had been affected by a limp. When he carried the Prophet ﷺ on his shoulders, he walked with a limp.
But he tried his utmost not to limp so that the Prophet ﷺ would not be caused any discomfort.
Through the blessing of carrying the Prophet ﷺ on his shoulders, his limp disappeared.
By that time, news of the battle had reached Madinah. Therefore, women began traveling toward the battlefield of Uhud.
Among them was Hazrat Fatimah رضي الله عنها.
When she saw the Prophet ﷺ wounded, she immediately embraced him. Then she washed his wounds.
Hazrat ‘Ali رضي الله عنه began pouring water over them, but the wounds began bleeding even more.
Hazrat Fatimah رضي الله عنها then tore off a piece of her garment and burned it. When it had turned into ashes, she placed the ashes into the Prophet’s ﷺ wounds.
In this way, the bleeding from his wounds stopped.
When the Prophet ﷺ reached the rock, a group of the enemy also reached the top of the mountain. Khalid ibn al-Walid was among them.
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw the enemies, he said:
«“O Allah! Our strength and power belong to You alone.”»
At that time, Hazrat ‘Umar رضي الله عنه confronted those men with a group of the Muhajirun and pushed them back, forcing them to descend from the mountain.
After this, the Prophet ﷺ offered the Zuhr prayer. Because of his weakness, he performed this prayer while sitting.
In this battle, Hazrat Talhah رضي الله عنه suffered approximately seventy wounds. They were caused by spears, lances, and swords.
One sword blow cut his fingers, and an arrow struck his other hand. Blood continued to flow from it until he became unconscious due to weakness.
Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq رضي الله عنه then sprinkled water on his face. When he regained consciousness, he immediately asked:
«“How is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?”»
Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq رضي الله عنه replied:
«“He is well.”»
Upon hearing this, Hazrat Talhah رضي الله عنه said:
«“Praise be to Allah. After every hardship comes ease.”»
Hazrat ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf رضي الله عنه was struck on the face, and the blow broke his teeth. In addition, he had approximately twenty wounds on his body.
One wound was also on one of his legs, causing him to walk with a limp.
Hazrat Ka‘b ibn Malik رضي الله عنه also received around twenty wounds.
In short, most of the Companions رضي الله عنهم were severely wounded.
Before the Battle of Uhud began, a man named Qazman had also joined the battle from the Muslim side.
As soon as the Prophet ﷺ saw him, he said:
«“This man is destined for Hell.”»
Qazman fought extremely bravely in the Battle of Uhud. When the battle began, he was also the first person to shoot an arrow.
While fighting, he charged into the cavalry of the polytheists and killed eight or ten of them in a very short time.
Some of the Companions mentioned his bravery to the Prophet ﷺ.
Their purpose in mentioning it was that the Prophet ﷺ had declared him to be destined for Hell, yet he was fighting with such extraordinary courage.
The Prophet ﷺ again said:
«“This man is destined for Hell.”»
The Companions رضي الله عنهم were extremely astonished by this.
