Seeing their condition, Hazrat Tufayl ibn ‘Amr رضي الله عنه went again to the Noble Prophet ﷺ and said:
«“O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The people of Daws have overcome me, so please pray for them.”»
The Prophet ﷺ prayed:
«“O Allah! Grant guidance to the people of Daws and bring them toward the religion.”»
Hazrat Tufayl ibn ‘Amr al-Dawsi رضي الله عنه then returned to his people. He began preaching Islam to them again. He continued inviting them to Islam until the Noble Prophet ﷺ migrated from Makkah to Madinah.
Eventually, those people embraced Islam. Hazrat Tufayl ibn ‘Amr al-Dawsi رضي الله عنه brought them with him to Madinah.
By that time, the Battle of Badr, the Battle of Uhud, and the Battle of the Trench had already taken place, and the Noble Prophet ﷺ was present at Khaybar.
There were seventy or eighty families with Hazrat Tufayl ibn ‘Amr al-Dawsi رضي الله عنه. Among them was Hazrat Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه.
Since these people arrived at the time of the Battle of Khaybar, the Noble Prophet ﷺ allocated a share for them along with all the other Muslims, even though they had not participated in the battle.
After the journey to Ta’if, the event of Mi‘raj took place. This was a special blessing from Allah Almighty upon the Noble Prophet ﷺ and one of the greatest miracles of his Prophethood.
The event took place in the following manner: the Noble Prophet ﷺ was resting at night in Makkah al-Mukarramah, at the house of Hazrat Umm Hani رضي الله عنها, when Allah Almighty sent Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام and Hazrat Mika’il عليه السلام to him.
They took him to Masjid al-Haram. From there, they took him on the Buraq to Masjid al-Aqsa, where all the Prophets عليهم السلام offered prayer behind him.
After this, he was taken through the seven heavens and he conversed with Allah Almighty.
Some important details of this journey are as follows:
Before the Noble Prophet ﷺ reached Bayt al-Maqdis, he was travelling with Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام when they passed through a lush and fertile area.
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام said to him:
«“Get down here and offer two Rak‘ahs of prayer.”»
The Prophet ﷺ dismounted from the Buraq and offered two Rak‘ahs.
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام asked:
«“Do you know what place this is?”»
He replied:
«“No.”»
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام then said:
«“You have offered prayer here in Taybah, that is, Madinah al-Munawwarah, and this is the place of your migration.”»
(That is, after migrating from Makkah, you will come here.)
After this, the Buraq continued its journey. Each of its steps reached as far as the eye could see.
At another place, Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام said:
«“Get down here and offer prayer.”»
The Prophet ﷺ also offered two Rak‘ahs there.
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام informed him:
«“You have offered prayer in Madyan.”»
The settlement of Madyan had been named after Madyan, the son of Hazrat Ibrahim عليه السلام. He had stayed at this place, and later a settlement developed there. Hazrat Shu‘ayb عليه السلام was sent as a Prophet to this settlement.
After this, the Prophet ﷺ again mounted the Buraq.
At another place, Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام said:
«“Now get down here and offer prayer.”»
The Prophet ﷺ got down and offered two Rak‘ahs.
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام informed him:
«“This is Bayt Lahm.”»
Bayt Lahm is a settlement near Bayt al-Maqdis where Hazrat ‘Isa عليه السلام was born.
During this journey, the Prophet ﷺ was shown the condition of those who strive in the path of Allah. That is, the conditions of those who strive in Allah’s cause were shown to him through an illustrative vision of the Hereafter.
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام explained:
«“These are the people who strive in the path of Allah. Allah has multiplied the reward of each of their good deeds seven hundred times.”»
Likewise, the world was brought before the Noble Prophet ﷺ. It was shown to him in the form of a beautiful woman.
This woman said to him:
«“O Muhammad! Look toward me. I want to say something to you.”»
The Prophet ﷺ paid no attention to her and asked Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام:
«“Who is she?”»
He replied:
«“This is the world. If you had paid attention to her, your Ummah would have chosen the world over the Hereafter.”»
After this, the Prophet ﷺ saw an old woman on the way and asked:
«“Who is this?”»
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام explained:
«“This too is the world. Only as much of the lifespan of the world remains as could remain in the life of this old woman.”»
After this, the Prophet ﷺ was shown the consequences of various sins, including betraying trusts, abandoning obligatory prayers, failing to pay Zakah, committing immorality, and highway robbery.
The frightening consequences of these actions were shown to him.
Those who betrayed trusts were shown bearing burdens that they were unable to carry.
Those who abandoned their obligatory prayers were shown undergoing severe punishment.
Those who did not pay Zakah from their wealth were shown in a state of severe punishment and deprivation, and they were shown consuming things that were extremely bitter and unpleasant.
Regarding the tree of Zaqqum, it is mentioned that it is extraordinarily bitter and harmful, and its bitterness is beyond comparison with the trees of this world. It is also mentioned that those who mocked the Noble Prophet ﷺ in this world would be made to eat from it.
The consequences of immorality were also shown to the Prophet ﷺ. Some people were shown being presented with different kinds of food, yet they chose the impure and spoiled food instead of the good food.
Hazrat Jibril عليه السلام explained regarding them:
«“These are those people of your Ummah who had pure and lawful women available to them, but they abandoned them and went to immoral women; or they are those women who had husbands but abandoned them and went to immoral men.”»
The consequence shown to those who consumed interest was that they were suffering severe punishment.
The consequence of those scholars who used to preach to people while failing to act upon their own teachings was also shown to the Prophet ﷺ. They were subjected to severe punishment without respite.
The backbiters and tale-bearers were likewise shown undergoing severe punishment.
After leading the prayer of the Prophets عليهم السلام in Masjid al-Aqsa, the Noble Prophet ﷺ was taken through the seven heavens and was made to meet great and honored Prophets عليهم السلام.
Then the Prophet ﷺ was shown the condition of Paradise.
He passed through one of the valleys of Paradise. An extremely pleasant fragrance was coming from it, and a cool breeze, more fragrant than musk, was blowing. A beautiful voice could also be heard.
The voice was saying:
«“Silk, pearls, gold, silver, coral, honey, milk, and cups and vessels of drink have become abundant in my dwelling of delight.”»
At this, Allah Almighty said:
«“Every believing man and woman who believes in Me and My Messengers, does not associate anyone with Me, and does not consider anyone greater than Me or equal to Me, will enter you.
Listen! The heart of the one who fears Me remains protected because of his fear of Me. Whoever asks Me, I will not deprive him. Whoever gives Me a loan—that is, performs righteous deeds and spends in My path—I will reward him. Whoever places his trust and reliance upon Me, I will continue to provide what is sufficient for his needs.
I am the true God. There is none worthy of worship except Me. My promise is true and does not fail. The salvation of the believer is certain. Allah Almighty is the One who bestows blessings and is the Best of Creators.”»
Upon hearing this, I said:
«“Enough, O my Lord. I am pleased and content.”»
