Abu Musa al-Ash’ari رضي الله عنه — A Treasure From the Treasures of Paradise
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari رضي الله عنه — A Treasure From the Treasures of Paradise
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari رضي الله عنه — A Treasure From the Treasures of Paradise
The higher the road climbed, the louder the valley became.
A company of travellers was on the move, and every time the path rose, the Takbir rose with it — echoing from slope to slope, voices lifted to the sky as though Allah could only be reached by shouting.
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari رضي الله عنه tells the scene himself:
"We were in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) on a journey, and whenever we ascended a high place, we used to say Takbir (in a loud voice)."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
The Takbir itself was not the problem. What the Prophet ﷺ corrected was the strain in their voices — men shouting as though the One they called upon was far away. He ﷺ said:
"O people! Be kind to yourselves, for you are not calling upon a deaf or an absent one, but You are calling an All-Hearer, and an All-Seer."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
Be kind to yourselves. Even the correction was gentle, and its reason was pure gentleness: you are not calling across a distance. The One you call hears without being shouted at.
And inside all that noise, there was one quiet voice.
Abu Musa رضي الله عنه was travelling with words moving on his tongue that almost nobody could hear — reciting silently, keeping them between himself and his Lord:
> «لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ»
"La haul a wala quwwata illa bil-lah."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
No might to move, and no power to change, except through Allah.
The Prophet ﷺ came to him — through all the shouting, to the man who was barely audible — and gave those quiet words a name Abu Musa would never forget. He called him by his full name:
"O `Abdullah bin Qais! Say: La haul a walaquwata illa bil-lah, for it is one of the treasures of Paradise."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
The narration honestly carries the moment in a second wording too. Or he said:
"Shall I tell you a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise? It is: La haul a wala quwwata illa bil-lah."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
A treasure — not buried beneath a mountain, not locked inside a chest. A sentence. Small enough to whisper on a journey; precious enough to be stored among the treasures of Paradise.
And this quiet traveller carried another gift, one the Prophet ﷺ named in a single sentence:
"You have been given one of the mazamir (sweet melodious voices) of the family of David."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5048
A voice counted among the sweet voices of the house of Dawud عليه السلام — the same man whose whispered words on the road were called a treasure of Paradise.

🌿 Stop and Think About This Scene
Put the two sounds of this journey side by side.
On one side, voices straining up a hillside, calling as if distance stood between them and their Lord. On the other, one man reciting silently — words nobody around him could hear.
The Prophet ﷺ softened the first sound and treasured the second. He did not silence the Takbir; he removed the strain from it. And what he praised was not the loudest voice on the road, but the quietest one — words spoken almost without sound.

❤️ The Greatest Lesson
Allah is not deaf, and He is not absent.
Everything in a believer's worship changes with that one certainty. Dua stops being a shout thrown across a canyon and becomes a conversation with the One who hears the whisper and the silence beneath it.
And the treasure carries the same secret inside it. La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah is a confession: I have no power to obey, to endure, or to change — except through Allah. Whoever truly says it has stopped straining, because he has stopped pretending the strength was his.

📚 Important Lessons From This Hadith
1. Allah is not deaf or absent — His nearness changes how we call
"O people! Be kind to yourselves, for you are not calling upon a deaf or an absent one, but You are calling an All-Hearer, and an All-Seer."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
We do not raise our voices to make Allah hear. He hears the loud call and the hidden one exactly the same.
---
2. Be gentle with yourself in worship
The Prophet ﷺ did not command silence; he commanded kindness toward their own selves. Worship is not a strain performed for a distant Lord, but a call to the One who is present, hearing and seeing.
---
3. Quiet dhikr does not go unnoticed
While the company shouted, one traveller recited silently — and he is the one the Prophet ﷺ came to. What is hidden from people is not hidden from Allah.
---
4. La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah is a treasure of Paradise
"O `Abdullah bin Qais! Say: La haul a walaquwata illa bil-lah, for it is one of the treasures of Paradise."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6384
A treasure that weighs nothing and costs nothing: the confession that all might and all power belong to Allah alone.
---
5. A beautiful voice is itself a gift from Allah
"You have been given one of the mazamir (sweet melodious voices) of the family of David."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5048
The sweetness in Abu Musa's voice was not his own achievement. It was given — and a gift from Allah is carried with gratitude and spent in His remembrance.

🏠 How Can We Apply This Hadith in Our Daily Lives?
🤲 Lower the strain, not the certainty
Do not approach Allah in dua as though He were far away. Speak, whisper, or weep silently — He is the All-Hearer in every case.
🔇 Keep some dhikr just between you and Allah
Abu Musa's treasure was found in words he was saying silently. Let part of your remembrance be hidden, where no one hears it but the All-Hearer.
🧗 Say the treasure when the climb is hard
On steep roads and heavy days, say: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. It is a small sentence with the value of Paradise stored inside it.
🎙️ Treat your gifts as trusts
Whatever Allah has given you — a voice, a skill, a memory — He gave it. Use it in His service, as Abu Musa's voice and whisper were both spent in remembrance.

🌹 The Most Beautiful Message of This Story
On that hillside, the loudest voices were told to be gentle, and the quietest voice was told it was carrying a treasure.
You do not need to shout for Allah to hear you. He is not deaf, and He is not absent. He heard the company's Takbir on the heights — and He heard one man's whisper inside it.
So carry the treasure with you: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah — on the climbs, in the noise, in the silence. Paradise has treasures that fit on a traveller's tongue.
