What Al-Mujib Means

Al-Mujib is from the root j-w-b, to answer. Allah is Al-Mujib: the One who answers the call of whoever calls Him. Prophet Salih joined this name with nearness: “My Lord is Qarib (Near), Mujib” (11:61) — He is not far away, waiting to be reached; He is near, and He responds. Allah says it of Himself: “I answer the call of the caller when he calls upon Me” (2:186). Answering does not always mean receiving the exact thing asked at the exact moment wished; it means no sincere call is ever ignored or lost. For the believer this name kills despair in dua: you are never speaking into emptiness. Keep calling, with patience and certainty, and leave the shape and timing of the answer to the wisdom of the One who responds.

Al-Mujib in the Quran

“And to (the people of) Thamūd (We sent) their brother, SāliH. He said, “O my people, worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. He has created you from earth and made you settle therein. So, seek His forgiveness, then turn to Him in repentance. Surely, my Lord is near, responsive to the prayers.””

Surah Hud — 11:61Read in the Quran →

“When My servants ask you about Me, then (tell them that) I am near. I respond to the call of one when he prays to Me; so they should respond to Me, and have faith in Me, so that they may be on the right path.”

What the Prophet ﷺ Taught Us

THE FOUNDATION OF THE 99 NAMES

“Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 2736 — read the hadith →

“Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The invocation of anyone of you is granted (by Allah) if he does not show impatience (by saying, “I invoked Allah but my request has not been granted.”)”

Calling Upon Allah by This Name

Allah Himself commands us to call upon Him by His beautiful names:

“For Allah there are the most beautiful names. So, call Him by them, and leave those who deviate in (the matter of) His names. They shall be recompensed for what they have been doing.”

Surah Al-A’raf — 7:180Read in the Quran →

Allah commands us to call upon Him by His names (7:180), so call upon Him as Ya Mujib — for example, in your own words: “Ya Mujib, You promised to answer the one who calls; I call You now with a needy heart — answer me in the way You know is best.” The practical lesson comes from the Prophet’s warning (Bukhari 6340): do not hasten and abandon dua saying it was not answered. Persistence in supplication is itself the behaviour of someone who truly believes in Al-Mujib.
