Closing a gathering with the expiation of the assembly
The Prophet (SAW) taught that whoever sits in a gathering and engages in idle talk should say before rising: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise; I bear witness there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You."
Reference: Sunan Abi Dawud and Jami' al-Tirmidhi, graded Hasan, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA)
Explanation
This closing dhikr serves as an expiation for any shortcomings that occurred during the time spent together.
