Al-Wajid

Name 64 of 99

الْوَاجِدُ

Al-Wajid

The Perceiver

What Al-Wajid Means

Al-Wajid is built on the root wa-ja-da, to find and to perceive. Scholars explain that it describes the One who finds whatever He wills and from whom nothing is hidden or lost: everything is present to His knowledge, and He never needs to search. Honesty requires noting how the name reaches us: the Quran does not use Al-Wajid as a noun for Allah, but it shows the reality behind it when Allah addresses His Prophet (saw): ‘And He found you lost and guided you. And He found you poor and made you self-sufficient’ (93:7-8). The One who found His Messenger in every need knows exactly where each of His servants is, and what each one lacks. Nothing about you is misplaced with Al-Wajid, and nothing you have lost is lost to Him.

Al-Wajid in the Quran

“And He found you unaware of the way (the Sharī‘ah ), then He guided you.”

What the Prophet ﷺ Taught Us

THE FOUNDATION OF THE 99 NAMES

“Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.”

Calling Upon Allah by This Name

Allah Himself commands us to call upon Him by His beautiful names:

وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ فَٱدْعُوهُ بِهَا ۖ وَذَرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِىٓ أَسْمَـٰٓئِهِۦ ۚ سَيُجْزَوْنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

“For Allah there are the most beautiful names. So, call Him by them, and leave those who deviate in (the matter of) His names. They shall be recompensed for what they have been doing.”

Surah Al-A’raf — 7:180Read in the Quran →

Because Al-Wajid knows where everything is and what everyone needs, the believer calls on Him when something precious is lost — health, provision, direction, or a person. In your own words you may say: ‘Ya Wajid — O You who find all things and lack nothing — You found Your Prophet when he was lost and poor; find me in my need and suffice me as You sufficed him.’
