In response to the angel of the mountains, the Prophet ﷺ said:
«“No! I hope that Allah Almighty will surely bring forth from their descendants people who will worship Allah Almighty and will not associate anyone with Him.”»
Upon this, the angel of the mountains replied:
«“Just as Allah Almighty has named you, you are truly Ra’uf and Rahim, meaning extremely forgiving and extremely merciful.”»
On the return journey from Ta’if, nine jinn passed by the Prophet ﷺ. They were residents of Nasibin. This was the name of a city in the region of Syria.
At that time, the Prophet ﷺ was offering prayer. When the jinn heard the voice of his recitation, they immediately accepted Islam. Previously, they had been Jews.
When the Prophet ﷺ returned from Ta’if and entered Makkah, he came to the Haram and performed Tawaf around the House of Allah. After that, he went to his home.
Meanwhile, when the nine jinn returned to their people, they told the other jinn about the Prophet ﷺ. Consequently, all of them came to Makkah.
They stayed at a place called Hajun and sent one of the jinn to the Prophet ﷺ. He said to him:
«“My people are staying at Hajun. Please come there.”»
The Prophet ﷺ promised him that he would come to Hajun sometime during the night.
Hajun was the name of a cemetery in Makkah.
At night, the Prophet ﷺ reached there. Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud رضي الله عنه was with him.
When they reached Hajun, the Prophet ﷺ drew a circle around Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud رضي الله عنه and said:
«“Do not come out of this circle. If you step outside the circle, you will neither see me nor will I see you until the Day of Judgment.”»
According to another narration, the Prophet ﷺ said to him:
«“Remain here until I return. You will not be afraid of anything, nor will you feel frightened upon seeing anything.”»
After this, the Prophet ﷺ went some distance away and sat down.
Suddenly, completely dark-skinned people came toward the Prophet ﷺ. There were quite a large number of them, and they crowded around him and rushed toward him—that is, in their eagerness to listen to the Holy Qur’an, they were falling over one another.
At this moment, Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud رضي الله عنه wanted to move forward and drive these people away from the Prophet ﷺ. But then he remembered the Prophet’s ﷺ instruction, so he did not move from his place.
Meanwhile, the jinn said to the Prophet ﷺ:
«“O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The place where we live, that is, the place to which we have to return, is far away. Therefore, please arrange provisions for the journey for us and for our riding animals.”»
In response, the Prophet ﷺ said:
«“Every bone upon which the name of Allah has been pronounced, when it reaches your hands, will become more fleshy than it was before; and this dung and manure is fodder for your animals.”»
In this way, the jinn believed in the Prophet ﷺ.
