Justice Was Served

The Indian scholar then asked him:

“Whom do you worship?”

He replied:

“We worship Allah, the One who is not visible before us.”

The Hindu scholar then asked:

“Who informed you about Him?”

Imam Rukn al-Din replied:

“Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ did.”

The Indian scholar then asked:

“What did your Prophet ﷺ say about the soul?”

The Imam replied:

“He said, ‘The soul exists by the command of my Lord.’”

Upon hearing this, the Indian scholar said:

“You speak the truth.”

Then he accepted Islam.

One day, the Noble Prophet ﷺ was sitting in Masjid al-Haram with some of his Companions رضي الله عنهم.

At that time, some of the Quraysh of Makkah were also sitting nearby in a gathering.

A man from the tribe of Zubayd came there.

He went toward the Quraysh and began walking around them.

Then he said:

“O Quraysh! How can anyone enter your territory, and how can any merchant come to your land, when you oppress everyone who comes here?”

As he was saying this, he reached the place where the Prophet ﷺ was sitting.

The Prophet ﷺ asked him:

“Who has wronged you?”

He explained:

“I brought three of my finest camels here to sell, but Abu Jahl offered only one-third of their actual value.

He did this deliberately because he knows that he is the leader of his people. No one will offer more than the price he has set.

This means that I will have to sell my camels at an extremely low price. If this is not injustice, then what is?

My entire journey for trade will be wasted.”

After listening to him fully, the Noble Prophet ﷺ asked:

“Where are your camels?”

He replied:

“They are here at a place called Khazurah.”

The Prophet ﷺ immediately stood up, took his Companions with him, and went to the camels.

He saw that the camels were indeed excellent.

He negotiated the price with the man, and eventually the deal was happily settled.

The Prophet ﷺ purchased the camels from him.

He then sold two of the better camels and distributed their price among widowed women.

Abu Jahl was sitting there in the marketplace.

He witnessed the transaction but could not say a word.

The Prophet ﷺ came to him and said:

“Beware, ‘Amr!”—‘Amr was Abu Jahl’s name—“If you do such a thing again, I will deal with you very firmly.”

Hearing this, he said fearfully:

“Muhammad! I will never do it again… I will never do it again.”

After this, the Noble Prophet ﷺ returned from there.

On the way, Umayyah bin Khalaf met Abu Jahl.

Some other companions were also with him.

They asked Abu Jahl:

“You are returning after being thoroughly humiliated by Muhammad. It seems that either you want to follow him or you have become afraid of him.”

Abu Jahl replied:

“I can never follow Muhammad.

The reason for the weakness you witnessed is that when I saw Muhammad, I saw many men standing on his right and left.

They were holding spears and lances and waving them toward me.

If I had not obeyed him at that moment, all of those men would have attacked me.”

Abu Jahl once became the guardian of an orphan.

He then seized all of the orphan’s wealth and expelled him.

The orphan came to the Noble Prophet ﷺ and complained against Abu Jahl.

The Prophet ﷺ took the orphan with him and went to Abu Jahl.

He said to him:

“Return this orphan’s wealth.”

Abu Jahl immediately handed the wealth over to the boy.

When the polytheists learned about this, they were extremely surprised.

They said to Abu Jahl:

“What happened? Since when have you become so cowardly that you immediately handed the wealth over to this boy?”

He replied:

“You do not know!

I saw very frightening weapons on Muhammad’s right and left.

I became afraid of them.

If I had not returned this orphan’s wealth, those weapons would have been used to strike me.”

There was a branch of the tribe of Khash‘am called Arashah.

A man from this branch sold some camels to Abu Jahl, but Abu Jahl did not pay him their price.

The man complained to the people of Quraysh.

They decided to make a plan to mock the Noble Prophet ﷺ.

They said to the Arashi:

“Go to Muhammad and complain to him.”

They said this because they thought that the Noble Prophet ﷺ would not be able to do anything against Abu Jahl.

The Arashi went to the Noble Prophet ﷺ.

The Prophet ﷺ immediately took him along and went to Abu Jahl’s house.

He knocked on the door.

Abu Jahl asked from inside:

“Who is it?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“Muhammad.”

As soon as he heard the Prophet’s name, Abu Jahl immediately came outside.

His face had already turned pale.

The Prophet ﷺ said to him:

“Pay this man what is rightfully due to him immediately.”

He replied:

“Very well! I will bring it right away.”

He immediately paid the man his due.

The man then returned to the Quraysh gathering and said to them:

“May Allah Almighty reward him with goodness. By Allah, he got me my right.”

The polytheists had also sent one of their men behind the Prophet ﷺ and instructed him to observe what the Noble Prophet ﷺ would do.

When he returned, they asked him:

“Well? What did you see?”

He replied:

“I saw something extremely strange and astonishing.”
