الرَّشِيدُ

Ar-Rashid

The Guide to the Right Path

What Ar-Rashid Means

Ar-Rashid comes from the root ra-shin-dal, rushd: sound direction. Scholars explain Allah by this name as the One whose guidance to what is right needs no teacher, no adviser and no trial and error: all His decrees land exactly where wisdom requires, and He directs every affair to its best outcome. Honesty requires a note: this name does not occur as a name of Allah in the Quran — the word Rashid in Surah Hud (11:87) is thrown at the prophet Shu’ayb by his mocking people, not used of Allah — and no supplication of the Prophet (peace be upon him) using this name has been verified for this page. What is certain from the Quran is the reality the name describes: His commands are themselves the straight direction. For the believer, Ar-Rashid is the name to remember in confusion: the Lord who needs no counsellor can be trusted with decisions whose outcomes we cannot yet see.

What the Prophet ﷺ Taught Us

THE FOUNDATION OF THE 99 NAMES

“Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.”

Calling Upon Allah by This Name

Allah Himself commands us to call upon Him by His beautiful names:

وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ فَٱدْعُوهُ بِهَا ۖ وَذَرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِىٓ أَسْمَـٰٓئِهِۦ ۚ سَيُجْزَوْنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

“For Allah there are the most beautiful names. So, call Him by them, and leave those who deviate in (the matter of) His names. They shall be recompensed for what they have been doing.”

Surah Al-A’raf — 7:180Read in the Quran →

Call on Him in your own words, as Allah commands (7:180): ‘Ya Rashid — O Guide to the right path — direct my affairs to what is correct, for You need no adviser and never err.’ Bring this name to the moments of genuine confusion: two lawful options, no clear evidence, a decision that cannot wait. Then act on the guidance Allah has already sent — the Quran, the Sunnah and istikhara — trusting that He directs the steps of the servant who asks sincerely.
